The Youngstown area will get to see the solo side of Joe Buck when he plays Cleveland's Beachland Tavern on Thursday and Youngstown's Cedars Lounge on Friday.
Joe Buck, former guitarist of the goth-punk-country act Legendary Shack Shakers, played the part of the "Punk Rock Renaissance Man" on their 2003 debut on Bloodshot Records, "Cock A Doodle Don't."
Creative differences among his Shack Shaker mates inspired Joe Buck to go solo.
Buck is no stranger to Youngstown, having played at the now defunct Nyabinghi in 2004. He even acquired a new musical instrument during his time in town.
"I played Nyabinghi because it's great and it had the best PA system. Owner Greg Barrat sold me the Hazil Adkins guitar for $250 at that show," he said.
Now these days Joe Buck conquers the stage with his trusty guitar and kick-drum at tow.
"My kick-drum is a part of my sound," he said.
On his new project, Buck and Wheeler, Joe Buck is recording and touring with Shawn Wheeler from the BYO Records California Punk'n Roll act, Throwrag.
"The new material Buck and Wheeler is amazing American music," said Buck.
While Buck now focuses on American country music, that genre wasn't always his primary focus.
"When I was young I hated country music," he said. "After I left the house at 18, I found punk rock in 1980. I discovered The Buzzcocks and The Business. This is a world of music I did not know it existed. The Ramones still do it for me anytime and I still love AC/DC from the first note."
